Wart Treatment in Ocala, FL

Warts on the feet, often referred to as plantar warts, are noncancerous growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) entering the skin through tiny cuts or abrasions. These warts typically appear on the soles of the feet and can be recognized by their grainy or fleshy texture with small black dots. Plantar warts can cause discomfort or pain, especially when walking or standing.

Treatment options can include:

  • Topical Treatments:
  • Salicylic Acid: Over-the-counter (OTC) products containing salicylic acid are commonly used for wart removal. These come in the form of gels, pads, or plasters. Regular application of salicylic acid helps break down the wart tissue and stimulates the immune system to eliminate the virus. Prescription-strength formulations may be recommended by a healthcare professional for more stubborn cases.
  • Cantharidin: This is a topical solution that is applied to the wart by a healthcare provider. It causes the formation of a blister beneath the wart, lifting it off the skin. The dead wart tissue and the blister are then removed after a few days.
  • Cryotherapy (Freezing):
  • Cryotherapy involves freezing the wart using liquid nitrogen. The freezing causes the wart to die, and the dead tissue eventually falls off. Cryotherapy is a common in-office treatment performed by healthcare professionals. Multiple sessions may be required for complete removal.
  • Over-the-counter freeze-off products are also available for home use, but they may not be as effective as professional cryotherapy.
  • Electrosurgery and Laser Treatment:
  • Electrosurgery: In this procedure, a healthcare provider uses an electrical current to burn off the wart. Electrosurgery is typically done in a healthcare setting and may require local anesthesia.
